There will always be the purists who will shun any cross bred dog out of hand. They will automatically assume that it is less than, not worthy, or downright bad. Of course, we wish you well if you are one of those even though we feel a little sad for you because you will never know the utter joy a Bernedoodle can bring to your life.
Bernedoodles are a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. People began breeding these two pure breeds together in order to obtain a dog that could be like a Bernese Mountain Dog yet not have all the shedding that comes along with these lovely, large dogs.
I think a lot of people just got stuck on that idea and maybe haven't realized that a Bernedoodle is so much more than just a cute, non-shedding dog. You see, in tyring to get this lovely more hypo-allergenic dog what has happened is that in breeding Poodles with Bernese Mountain Dogs we have created a dog that has wit and intelligence and the perfect balance of energy and calmness.
The Berense Mountain Dog is not generally as quick on its feet, or with its wit, as the Poodle. Poodles are known to be some of the more intelligent dogs in the canine kingdom yet they also have quite a bit of energy. However, when bred with the Bernese Mountain Dog the Poodle retains much of its wit and intelligence but the energy is a bit more balanced. So, it's not just about aesthetics, these two termperaments are also really quite lovely together.
Of course, it is important that the breeder take into account each individual dog and breeding pair because temperament varies greatly even within the same breed. Here at Mt. Rainier Doodle Dogs we look carefully not only at the health of our dogs but at how their temperaments will compliment one another in order to get healthy puppies with the best temperaments. We are always trying to improve and select our best dogs to breed for puppies that will be excellent companions.
